Meet the big kid ensemble of Matilda The Musical

By Bailey Jones

Mark your calendars for Matilda The Musical at Lenoir Community College this weekend. The Roald Dahl musical centers on Matilda Wormwood, a young girl who is gifted with psychokinetic powers. She overcomes many obstacles driven by her uncaring family and heinous headmistress, Ms. Trunchbull.

The show will be directed by Lenoir Community College's Jessica Cruz, Fine Arts Program Chair and Music Instructor. It will take place on July 14 -16 and July 21-23 at LCC in the Briley Auditorium on the Turner Stage. This show is one of many that will be a part of the performing arts series at LCC and you won’t want to miss it. Neuse News is the title sponsor of Matilda The Musical.

Tickets are available now at www.lenoircc.edu/matilda. Ticket prices are as follows, accessible seating: $15, orchestra seating: $20, standard seating: $15, and student standard seating (ages 3-17; 18+ student ID required): $10.

The following individuals are part of the big kid ensemble.

Rachel Lemon is returning to the stage after a five-year hiatus. The Kinston native works locally at Grainger Stadium. Lemon danced for over 12 years and is the youngest of eight. Her previous works include the Grainger Performing Arts Centers’ production of Music Man in 2012, North Lenoir High School's production of The Wizard of Oz in 2013 and The King and I in 2014, and Annie in 2018 at LCC.

Rebekah Lemon, Rachel’s fraternal twin, is also returning to the LCC stage after a five-year hiatus. You may have seen the retired pageant girl in the Grainger Performing Arts Centers’ production of Music Man, North Lenoir High School's production of The Wizard of Oz and The King and I, and Annie at LCC.

Rosie Cruz is no stranger to the stage. Her previous works include LCC’s production of Annie in 2018 and many shows at RTP, NBCT, and ESP, both on and off stage as a crewmember. The Craven County native is excited to sing, dance, and act in Matilda The Musical alongside her family and friends.

Tameya Hooker is one talented individual. She is a singer, track runner, and basketball player. The Kinston native is thrilled about her first-ever theater experience!
