Snow Hill Primary "Terrific Kid" awards

Snow Hill Primary gives out a weekly award called "Terrific Kid" awards.  Each teacher at SHP chooses a student who has been responsible, shows great character, or has reached a personal goal.  On Fridays, these students are presented with an award and are congratulated for their hard work.  Below are Snow Hill Primary's last Terrific Kids!

Obituary: Davis Speight Webb

Davis Speight Webb, 85, of Kinston, passed away on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at UNC Lenoir Health Care. Visitation will be held from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m. Monday, May 1, 2023, at First Baptist Church, 2600 Rouse Road, Kinston, NC. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Jon Hoover and Pastor Don Causey officiating. Burial will follow the funeral service at Pinelawn Memorial Park, 4488 West Vernon Avenue, Kinston, NC.

Rochelle Middle School students win 9/11 competition award

Local students in Lenoir and Greene Counties were recently recognized for their outstanding work in Greene Lamp's 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance Program. The competition, which was open to middle and high school students, asked participants to submit an original essay, song, or poem on their reflection and research regarding the impact of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

Local Companies come together to support LCC student scholarships at Golf Classic

First National Bank of Kinston is the Putting Contest Sponsor of this year’s 22nd annual Lenoir Community College Golf Classic on Thursday, May 18, at the Kinston Country Club.  This event has raised more than $600,000 toward student scholarships at LCC since its inception. Nearly 130 golfers played in the tournament last year, and the Foundation is expecting an even better attendance this year.  

Obituary: Ann Spence

Ann Spence, 89, passed away Tuesday, April 25, 2023, with her family by her side. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, April 28, at 11am, at Jackson Heights OFWB Church with the Rev. Justin Barnett and Pastor Ashley Summerlin officiating. Burial will follow at Pinelawn Memorial Park.

LCSO: Woman arrested for vehicle theft

Breanna Summerlin was arrested April 11 after a Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office investigation revealed she had stolen a vehicle from the Blue Hornet Store, 6409 Hwy 258 S., on April 5. The victim of the larceny had left her vehicle at the store; upon her return to the store, she discovered her vehicle was missing.
