NWS calling for approximately 4" of snow

At 4:02 Thursday morning, the National Weather Service in Morehead City increased the snowfall totals for much of our coverage area. Kinston and Snow Hill are expected to receive approximately 4” while Trenton is expecting 3”. There’s a 10% chance for 5-6” of snow.

National Weather Service issues Snowfall Forecast for Thursday evening

As of 3:07 p.m., the National Weather Service in Morehead City, NC is calling for 1-2” of snow for much of our coverage area. The snow is expected Thursday evening through daybreak Friday. The NWS also stated in its release, “This forecast is very fluid.  While confidence has increased that we will see precipitation in our area, many factors still have to come together just right for snowfall. Please monitor for updates.”

Firetruck rolls over, sends two Hugo firefighters to UNC Lenoir Health Care

Emergency crews responded to a late-night structure fire along Sharon Church Road in Grifton. According to Capt. Frank White with Hugo Volunteer Fire & Rescue, “We had a firetruck rollover while responding to a structure fire just off Hwy 11. The firetruck rolled up on its side and into the ditch. We had two personnel on the truck. They’ve both been treated and have been sent to UNC Lenoir [Health Care].”

According to UNC Lenoir Health Care, both firefighters have been treated and released.

City of Kinston Pedestrian Plan Update

Recently representatives for the City of Kinston Pedestrian Plan update visited several locations around downtown Kinston to ask residents, employees, and visitors of Kinston about their experiences and preferences for walking in the City, ending at the Neuse Regional Library for a Community Workshop. Participants were able to share the locations they visit regularly and ideas for future projects.

GREAT Program Launches in Jones County

The Growing Rural Economies with Access to Technology (GREAT) program works by partnering with internet service providers and electric membership cooperatives to bring affordable broadband service to rural communities in North Carolina. The program funds eligible projects in economically distressed Tier One counties. Jones, Lenoir, and Greene are all Tier 1 counties.
