City of Kinston Pedestrian Plan Update

City of Kinston Pedestrian Plan Update

Recently representatives for the City of Kinston Pedestrian Plan update visited several locations around downtown Kinston to ask residents, employees, and visitors of Kinston about their experiences and preferences for walking in the City, ending at the Neuse Regional Library for a Community Workshop. Participants were able to share the locations they visit regularly and ideas for future projects.

Several participants mentioned their favorite places to walk for exercise, walking from work to restaurants or stores, or from their homes to local parks. Residents were also able to share barriers and safety concerns like drivers stopping for pedestrians at crosswalks, places along their favorite routes without sidewalks, or the distance from their homes to favorite places. “On the ground” reports from residents will be incorporated into the recommendations created by the Pedestrian Plan steering committee, made up of organizations like the NC Department of Transportation (NCDOT) and local stakeholders.

The City of Kinston and the Pedestrian Plan Steering Committee would like to thank the dozens of residents who have shared their experience so far. The survey is still available online in both English and Spanish at (https://kinstonwalks.metroquest.com/). The survey is open until February 29, 2020, and participants are entered into a $50 raffle prize.
