Emergency crews responded to a late-night structure fire along Sharon Church Road in Grifton. According to Capt. Frank White with Hugo Volunteer Fire & Rescue, “We had a firetruck rollover while responding to a structure fire just off Hwy 11. The firetruck rolled up on its side and into the ditch. We had two personnel on the truck. They’ve both been treated and have been sent to UNC Lenoir [Health Care].”

According to UNC Lenoir Health Care, both firefighters have been treated and released.

Regarding the structure fire, according to a witness, “I was in the home, my husband was welding. He comes in and all of a sudden we heard a big boom on the neighbor’s side of the house. It just happened all of a sudden. In like 30 seconds everything was up in flames. We thought it was going to get to [my] house. My brother wet the house down so it didn’t get to the house. My house is safe. My family is safe and sound.”

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
