On Thursday, August 28, 2025, at approximately 11:53 p.m., officers with the Kinston Police Department were dispatched to a report of a subject who had been shot near the 500 block of East Bright Street.
On August 15, 2025, at approximately 1:35 a.m., Kinston Police Department D-Squad officers conducted a traffic stop on Vernon Avenue with 49-year-old Eric Pettry of LaGrange. During the stop, K9 Kilo performed an open-air sniff around the vehicle and alerted to the presence of narcotics.
On August 12, 2025, Kinston Police Department Detectives were conducting consensual encounters as part of ongoing criminal investigations. While in the area of Holly Lane, detectives observed two males who appeared to be attempting to conceal items in their waistbands.
On August 9, 2025, at approximately 11:19 p.m., Kinston Police Department officers responded to a report of shots fired into an occupied vehicle near George Avenue and Dixon Street. The victim’s vehicle was struck nine (9) times.
Kinston Police Department Detectives have continued their investigation into this incident. Through further follow-up, detectives obtained warrants for 20-year-old Erion Strong, of Kinston, on the following charges:
This evening, Kinston Police Department officers responded to a report of a 12-year-old who had been shot in the arm on Dixon Street. The victim received medical attention, and investigators are actively working to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The Greene County Sheriff's Office Narcotics Unit arrested 45-year-old, Qusim Haneffe Maine Sr. of the Jason area, Tuesday afternoon, for the sell of heroin and meth.
On Wednesday, May 24th,2023, at 2328 hrs officers responded to the 400 blk of N Davis St. in regard to a shooting. Upon arrival officers located Franklin Antonio Bowden II deceased from apparent gunshot wounds.
KPD is currently investigating a theft of a wallet that occurred at Lenoir Community College today. A bank card from the wallet was used a short time later at Walmart.
On Sunday, December 25th, 2022, at approximately 4:15 p.m. Kinston Police Officers were dispatched to the 2200 block of Riley Rd. Kinston, N.C. in reference to an unattended death. Officers arrived on scene and located a 59 year old Kinston resident that was deceased. At this time the cause of death is unknown and it is being investigated as a suspicious death.
