Kinston Police Department: Shooting investigation and arrest
On August 9, 2025, at approximately 11:19 p.m., Kinston Police Department officers responded to a report of shots fired into an occupied vehicle near George Avenue and Dixon Street. The victim’s vehicle was struck nine (9) times.
Through the course of their investigation, KPD Detectives secured warrants for 20-year-old Syriek Evans of Kinston on the following charges:
-First Degree Attempted Murder
-Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill
-Discharging a Firearm into an Occupied Vehicle (9 counts)
-Malicious Assault in Secret
-Discharging a Firearm in the City Limits
-Going Armed to the Terror of the People
On August 12, 2025, KPD’s SWAT Team and Detectives executed two search warrants related to this case. Evans was located and taken into custody at one of the search locations. Officers also recovered a stolen firearm during the searches, resulting in an additional charge of Possession of a Stolen Firearm.
This case remains under investigation, and additional charges may be forthcoming.
