Sue Carol Dail Alexander, 91, of Franklinton passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, June 12, 2026. Sue was born on October 29, 1934 to the late Ben and Sybil Dail of La Grange, NC.
Sue grew up on the family farm in La Grange and loved all the fresh vegetables that were grown there. She graduated from Wheat Swamp High School in 1953. She furthered her education by attending Meredith College and later Hardbarger Business College in Raleigh.
While in the 3rd grade, Sue winked at JC which was the start of their lifelong commitment to each other leading to a marriage that lasted nearly 70 years.
She worked as a secretary for many years for the dean of Duke University Divinity School, the Department of Accounting at Ohio University - Athens while JC pursued a PhD in communications, and lastly at Smoky Mountain Mental Health in Sylva, NC. Her favorite job was taking care of her family. She enjoyed cooking and loved to entertain, always making sure there was more than enough for whomever was around the table. Most of all, Sue enjoyed laughing and telling stories of years past around the dinner table with family and friends.
Even though she loved being in her home, she enjoyed traveling across the country and even internationally, visiting Italy, China, and Canada (as long as she had her pillow). She always loved her trips back to the family farm where she grew up and thought of that as home. She took pleasure in playing bridge with her friends, shopping and was a member of the Red Hat Society.
Sue is survived by her husband JC, and children Joe (Peggy), Susan Olund (Randy), and Scott (Margaret Sarah). She was Nonnie to Sarah Alexander (Lance Rice) and Jonathan Olund (Hannah) and an aunt to many nieces and nephews whom she loved like her own. She is also survived by her brothers-in-law, Bill Smith (Dru) and Robert Alexander (Leslie).
Sue was preceded in death by her siblings, Harold Dail (Ida Gay), Elmer Dail (Edith), Ben Dail (Charlotte), Grace Smith; and brother-in-law Bert Alexander (Linda).
A funeral service of love and remembrance is scheduled for Saturday, June 20, 2026 at 11:00 am in the chapel at Rouse Funeral Home (108 N. Caswell Street, La Grange, NC) with Reverend Ben Rouse officiating.
Please join the family for a celebration of life, time of remembrance and lunch after the service at Wheat Swamp Christian Church Fellowship Hall (2705 Institute Road, La Grange, NC) and later at the home of Mary Dail (4409 Ben Dail Road, La Grange, NC).
Flowers are welcome or memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association (alz.org). Arrangements are entrusted to Rouse Funeral Home, La Grange.
