Oct 30 Obituary: Grace Sparrow Dail

Grace Sparrow Dail, 98, peacefully passed away on Thursday, October 29, 2026. Grace was born in Lenoir County on October 16, 1928, to the late Johnnie I. Sparrow and Lillian Whitley Sparrow.

A straight-A student throughout high school, Grace was sought after for a position with the FBI, but her love for home was too strong to leave. Nevertheless, her keen intellect and strong work ethic served her well throughout her life. Born prematurely and weighing only three pounds, Grace demonstrated remarkable strength from the very beginning, a quality that remained with her through her final days. Even into her nineties, she could often be found working in her yard and keeping her home immaculate.

Devoted to raising her sons and caring for her family, Grace was known as a meticulous housekeeper and phenomenal cook. She was always willing to lend a helping hand to her siblings, often caring for her many nieces and nephews. Grace took great pride in her sons and their accomplishments, keeping track of Doug's many victories during his racing days and frequently attending performances by Bobby and his band.

Grace had a special love for music and animals, particularly her beloved cats. Never one to shy away from sharing her opinions or offering advice, she was a woman of strong will and equally strong words. Though her words could sometimes be direct, more often than not, she was right.

A service of love and remembrance will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at Rouse Funeral Home. The family will receive friends during the hour prior to the service. Committal will follow at Pinelawn Memorial Park.

Grace is survived by her son, Douglas R. Dail; brother-in-law, Kenneth Edwards; sister-in-law, Janet Sparrow; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Lee Dail Jr.; son, Bobby C. Dail and his wife, Yuvonne; daughter-in-law, Faye Dail; grandson, Robbie Dail; and siblings, Virginia Toth, Vernelle Edwards, Donnie Sparrow, Billy Sparrow, Roy Sparrow, and Johnnie Sparrow.
