Evelyn Dove Coleman: A True Friend of Faith
On a recent Saturday morning I talked to a good friend who downright lifted my faith by every sentence. You've heard the old saying that if you squeeze a sponge, what it is filled with comes out. Well, that is how it is with my good friend Jimmy Tull Hill, Jr. In his very conversation, he is repeating the scriptures. It might go something like, "You know Evelyn. like it says in Psalm 23, verse 2, he leads me beside still waters. And I have peace." Yes, he knows chapter and verse numbers by heart.
While we chatted, he recited how the "Great Physician" healed the woman who'd had an issue of blood for 12 years. And how he healed the little daughter of Jairus in Mark 5:41 as well as the woman who was bent over and could not straighten up in Luke 13:10. Then, he casually said, "And we haven't even mentioned how he called Lazarus forth, who had died." That is how his conversation goes. It is a veritable faith-lift.
I grew up on Briary Run Road hearing my father speak of a great man in the community named Tull Hill who was a master farmer. That was Jimmy Hill's dad. He shared tips with others to make them better agricultural businessmen. Apparently, he raised his son with the same values of how to treat others. I am blessed to be able to call Jimmy Hill my friend. We will keep on talking about the scriptures that boost our faith and keep it strong. Let us all keep on praying.
