Evelyn Dove Coleman: Healthy Eating
A Kinston friend mentioned in a sermon that the old fellow gout messes with him sometime. Years ago a retired nurse, Prudie Joseph, suggested that I get some cherry juice to give my father for his bout with gout. It proved to be a magic elixir. Of course, he didn't want to drink the unsweetened kind as recommended. So he drank the better tasting one. Still it helped.
It is amazing how foods have such medicinal purposes. Mint tea, broccoli, milk, salmon, vinegar, cayenne pepper and other things are recommended for healthy living. I grew up hearing people say "An apple a day keeps the doctor away." Eating fresh vegetables and fruit aids our health. So does moderation munching. We can have some fun together doing potted gardens and cooking the things we grow.
And, add healthy herbs. When I first began taking Dialysis treatments six years ago, the process caused me to experience cramping in my lower extremities. I am just not one who tolerates pain with verve. So a nurse suggested that I eat a packet of mustard to ease the tightened muscles. Turns out that the Turmeric in mustard has that effect. Who knew? There is so much for us to explore about the good in our food.
