Evelyn Dove Coleman: Things Get Lost

Many years ago, when my adult cousin was a teenager, she told me that I had influenced her to put things in their place. She said I had encouraged her to let all of her things have a designated place and to always put them there. That way, our rooms will be organized and neat. And, moreover, we won't have to waste time looking for misplaced items.

Well, imagine how my week has gone when I have misplaced my mini-wallet.  My mini-wallet is a small black leather case that snaps closed. It also has a ring on it for my keys. In it I carry my driver's license, my Veterans i.d. card, my beach hotel priority club member card, and my Visa. My entire identity is in one place. So I always put it in its place.

How, then, did I wind up without it? Everything has a place. And if you put it in its place, you don't have to waste time looking for it. That's what I told my cousin Zonna Wilkie when she was young. It's what I've told my twin sons Jay and Lee Coleman and my younger sister Dee Dove. They are my witnesses that I like for things to be in their place. How is it, then, that I am now looking everywhere top to bottom for my key to my house and the key fob to my car? Fortunately, I have a duplicate set of keys, but I cannot replace the cross on my main key ring that reads "Jesus Is Lord." It was a gift from an American Legion Post 43 Auxiliary friend.  I have a new mantra now. Keep a duplicate in case things get lost.
