Evelyn Dove Coleman: More Feedback Than Expected
I had planned to write about something else today, but there was such an outpouring of support about my last column that I had to pivot. More people could identify with misplacing things than I expected. Like me, some folk were feeling like their possessions had simply gone puff into thin air without rhyme or reason. Their things, too, were successfully hiding wherever they were.
One friend locked her keys in the car and fretted for an hour about the expense of a locksmith before she realized that she had her extra set of keys right there in her pocketbook. It pays to have a duplicate, and it pays to remember that you do.
One reader gave me some sage advice. She said her grandmother used to tell her to repeat "Nothing in Christ is ever lost." She had recited it for me, and she told me to say it over and over. So I did. Further, I looked up the phrase. AI gave me this: The statement that nothing in Christ is ever lost reflects a core Christian belief rooted in eternal security, divine purpose, and the promise that God redeems all things.
The wittiest thing that came to me after last Sunday's column was my brother saying that he was planning to go out the next day to buy him a duplicate house key. I guess my experience made him ponder what would he do if he misplaced his key to his home. A beautiful house with no access could not be a pleasant thought.
I am uplifted by the number of people who commiserated with me when I thought I was the only one. And I am encouraged by the supportive tips on what to do that came my way. Mostly, I hope I've motivated more than my brother to get prepared for any similar mishap. As the insurance commercial goes, "It's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it." Even if it is an expensive pair of duplicate eyeglasses your husband buys for you as a gift to give you peace.
