Obituary: Stephen Michael "Mike" Anderson
Stephen Michael “Mike” Anderson, 53, of Trenton, met his Lord and Savior suddenly on September 21, 2025, while on duty in Chesapeake, VA. Michael was a Veteran of the United States Air Force and served in Special Intelligence. His family referred to him as his favorite superhero, “Batman”, because he tried to emulate the hero’s love of serving his community and keeping the streets safe at night through his work as a paramedic, as a husband, and as a father. His coworkers often referred to him as “Magic Mike” because his job came naturally to him like magic. He was passionate about his work as a paramedic and lived his life to serve and help others.
Michael was a graduate of Bethel Christian Academy, where he met his high school sweetheart, love of his life, and true soulmate, Terry. As teenagers, they worked together serving their community at Lenoir Memorial Hospital. Michael always had a positive outlook on life and worked hard to help bring a smile to others. He was a lover of learning and always wanted to learn how to do new things and mastered them quickly. He was a woodworker, handyman, and Jack-of-all-trades.
In adulthood, Michael valued spending quality time with the ones he loved. He spent as much free time as he could playing video games with his children, card games with his friends, and many rounds of fetch with his German Shepherd dogs, Drizzt, Catti-bre, and Widow. When his children were playing sports, he would volunteer as a referee or a coach just to spend more time with them.
He is survived by his wife, Terry Lynn Anderson, father, Stephen Anderson (Phyllis) of La Grange, Mother, Joy Dawson of Concord, daughters, Ashley Murphy (Jordan) of Greeneville, TN, and Megan Renner (Jonathan) of Johnson City, TN, son Wyatt Anderson of Havelock, step-sons, Trent Bridgers of Kinston, and Cody Bridgers of Kinston, sister, Stephanie Graham of Concord, NC, brother Dean Anderson (Bridget) of Newport, mother-in-law, Ronell Stroud Howard of Kinston, and niece, Mercedes Anderson of Havelock.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Gerton Fire and Rescue at 4975 Gerton Highway, Gerton, NC 28735 (1-828-290-6194) or Henderson County EMS at 2529 Asheville Highway, Hendersonville, NC 28791 (1-828-686-0061). Michael spent a considerable amount of his time working with both organizations to help victims of Hurricane Helene.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. at Howard-Carter Funeral Home with Pastor Stephen Anderson, father of Mike, officiating. Visitation will follow the service.
