Kinston Police Department: Juvenile Detained Following Purse Snatching Investigation

On September 24, 2025, at approximately 11:50 p.m., officers with the Kinston Police Department’s B-Squad were traveling on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard when they observed two male subjects run across the highway in front of oncoming traffic. Officers attempted to check on the individuals, but both continued running and appeared to be avoiding law enforcement.

The subjects were later located on Trianon Street, where they fled again. Officers were able to catch and detain one of the individuals, identified as a 14-year-old juvenile. During the encounter, the juvenile made comments referencing not being involved in a robbery.

While officers were on scene, they were advised of a 911 call from a 68-year-old victim reporting that two subjects had snatched her purse and fled on foot in the same area where the juvenile was observed.
