Kinston Police Department: Traffic Stop Leads to Khat Seizure

On September 24, 2025, at approximately 3:48 p.m., Kinston Police Department detectives conducted a traffic stop in the 2200 block of West Vernon Avenue for motor vehicle violations.

During the stop, the driver, a 17-year-old juvenile, was found to be in possession of approximately 113 grams of Khat and more than $4,000 in U.S. currency.

Following the discovery, detectives obtained a search warrant for the juvenile’s residence on Westover Avenue, where additional quantities of Khat were recovered.

Kinston Police Department detectives are working closely with Juvenile Justice in obtaining juvenile petitions related to this case.
