Obituary - Sadie “Lib” Mitchell

After a brief, and courageous, battle with cancer, Sadie “Lib” Mitchell, passed away peacefully and entered her heavenly home on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at Crystal Coast Hospice House in Newport, NC. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Mitchell, her parents, Jasper and Hazel Mitchell, brothers, Mike Mitchell and Doug Mitchell, and sister, Jackie Hill.

Lib was a beloved wife, mama, granny, sister, aunt, cousin, and a dear friend to many. She was devoted to her career and church throughout the years. Known as Sadie by her work “family”, she worked for more than 57 years at White & Allen, P.A. in Kinston. Lib also worked alongside her husband for many years at the Kinston Drag Strip in Kinston. She was actively involved in the United Methodist Women’s group at Rainbow UMC in Snow Hill, NC for many years and helped with numerous fundraisers and family events for the church. After Jim passed away, she quickly found her church home at First Free Will Baptist Church in Kinston, NC where she quickly became involved in the Ladies Auxiliary and numerous events there.

Aside from the devotion she had to her career and church, her greatest devotion was to her family. She is survived by her son, Jimmy Mitchell (Kim); daughter, Jamie Jenkins (Nick); grandchildren, Parker Mitchell, Claire Mitchell, Jacob Jenkins, Camden Jenkins, and Matthew Jenkins, who were all the light of her world; sister, Debbie Soles (Bruce), as well as many nieces and nephews, and numerous very special friends.

A celebration of life service will be held on Sunday, June 1, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at First Free Will Baptist Church, 3297 Falling Creek Road, Kinston, NC, with Pastor Terry Coates officiating. Visitation with reception will follow service. Burial will follow immediately after reception at Rainbow United Methodist Church Cemetery in Snow Hill.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for memorials to be made to First Free Will Baptist Church, 3297 Falling Creek Road, Kinston, NC 28504 or Crystal Coast Hospice House, PO Box 640, Newport, NC 28570 with all donations earmarked “In Memory of Sadie Mitchell”.
