Obituary: Mike Boyette
La Grange-William Michael “Mike” Boyette, 64, left the embraces of his devoted family to enter into life eternal with his Savior early on Saturday, May 17, 2025. Mike was born in Harnett County to the late William Bennett Boyette, Jr. and Eunice Price Boyette on September 23, 1960. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Jerry Sewell Donahue.
Working as an electronics engineer, Mike was employed with several cellular phone companies before retirement. No matter where he lived, he made sure to give back to his community, serving on the rescue squad in Suttontown and later Fremont, serving with the Nahunta Fire Department, and then volunteering as a policeman for Fremont and La Grange. Good-hearted and generous, Mike’s focus was always on the well-being of others.
Known by many as “the gadget man”, Mike’s attire always included a vast array of tools and gadgets on his belt and in his pockets. From pocket knives to flashlights, he was prepared with the tool needed for any job. His keychain appeared as if he possessed a key for every lock in the county, and if he didn’t, he probably had a tool to unlock it. As a hobby and a side business, Mike took his expertise as an electronics engineer and combined it with his love of gadgets to work on two-way radios.
As husband to Tessa for nearly thirty-two years, the couple were first great friends before deciding to go on their first date. About a year later, the two were wed and created a lasting legacy of love and devotion that they shared with their two sons. Mike was the ultimate family man, always interested in whatever brought joy to his wife and kids. Trips to Pigeon Forge or the parks in Florida were always highlights for the family, but day-to-day life was just as sweet. With their boys invested in baseball, Mike became the biggest fan and supporter of North Lenoir Athletics. He rarely missed a game, and was always supportive in every way possible.
Having a word to share with others at all times, Mike never met a stranger and could easily strike up a conversation with anyone. His sense of humor was large and his love for others evident, even on his worse days. Above all, Mike’s heart for his family and his graciousness toward others was always on display.
A service of love and remembrance will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Faith Fellowship Church, Kinston, on Wednesday, May 21, 2025 with Pastor John Robert Harris officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service, beginning at 12:30 p.m. Committal will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Newton Grove.
Mike is survived by his wife of nearly 32 years, Tessa Donahue Boyette; sons, Andrew Michael Boyette and Daniel Bryant Boyette; siblings, Billy Boyette (Sandra) and Bennett Myers; mother-in-law, Marjorie Ann Donahue; nephews, Brad Myers, Brian Myers (Brent Thomas), Troy C. Donahue Jr., and Randal Donahue; nieces, Katie Cross (Dustin) and Kelsey Donahue; great-nephews, Carter Myers and Easton Donahue; along with many extended family members and close friends.
