Meet the Nuns Bringing Heart and Humor to LCCFPA’s The Sound of Music

By: Cailyn Kennedy

Coming this November, The Sound of Music blossoms as Maria finds herself between the steady rhythms of the abbey and the lively charm of the von Trapp family. Guided by nuns whose humor softens the edges and whose faith steadies the soul, the story unfolds as a moving reflection on courage, conviction, and love in uncertain times.

The show, directed by Lenoir Community College’s Jessica Cruz, will take place November 14–16 and November 21–23, 2025, at LCC in the Briley Auditorium on the Turner Stage. This production is part of the LCC Foundation Performing Arts Series. Tickets are available now at www.lenoircc.edu/lccfpa. Ticket prices: accessible seating $15.00, orchestra seating $20.00, standard seating $15.00, and student standard seating (ages 4–17; 18+ student ID required) $10.00.

Among the many talented sisters who fill the abbey with song, four principal nuns bring distinctive spirit and personality to their roles—each adding depth, wit, and heart to the story.

Anna Vick steps into the role of Mother Abbess with steady poise and soaring conviction. A native of eastern North Carolina, she is honored to reprise the role while serving as a music director and pursuing graduate studies at Liberty University.

Arielle Winn takes on the role of Sister Margaretta with grounded warmth and quick comic spark. From New Bern to Kinston, she has appeared in ensemble work and as Patty Simcox in Grease, and she’s thrilled to bring Sister Margaretta to life with the encouragement of friends, family, and this supportive community.

Meloni Wray brings bright curiosity and a clear, joyful presence to Sister Sophia. Making her first appearance on the LCC stage, she has worked since 2017 as a producer, assistant director, and actor with RiverTowne Players in New Bern.

Suzi Wagner portrays Sister Berthe and Frau Schmidt with crisp wit and no-nonsense charm. Program Director for Surgical Technology at Edgecombe Community College, she loves singing in church and with her band “The Speculations,” enjoys mission trips and travel, and is a proud wife, mother, and grandmother.

This November, come experience The Sound of Music—a timeless story of faith, family, and the strength to follow one’s heart.
