Obituary: Bud Harris
Snow Hill- Julius Daniel “Bud” Harris, 85, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, October 11, 2025. Bud was born in Greene County to the late John Ivey Harris and Florence Dora Edwards Harris on April 14, 1940. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Robert Lee Harris, James Earl Harris, Lena Belle Wade, and Virginia Spence; and his wife of 58 years, Dorothy Mitchell Harris.
Bud’s strong work ethic was engrained from his very youth. Known as a “workaholic” to his family, his dedication to his job as a truck driver was unmatched. He believed in the value of honest labor and providing for those he loved. His job suited him well, as he had a love for the open road and the adventure that came with it. After retiring in 2001, he and Dorothy spent several years traveling the United States together, making memories and enjoying life on their own terms.
A people person by nature, Bud never met a stranger. He was easy to talk to and an instant friend to all who crossed his path. He was always true to his word and never left anyone guessing where he stood. Known for his sharp wit and playful sense of humor, there was always a laugh to be had when Bud was around.
Devoted to his Christian walk, Bud was a member of Grace Missionary Baptist Church in Kinston for over forty years. He later joined Victory Baptist Church in Kinston where he worshiped for twenty years before joining the congregation at Faith Baptist Church in Ayden. His love for the Lord was evident in both word and deed. In years past, he served faithfully as a Deacon and as a member of the church school board. His unwavering faith and commitment to service were hallmarks of his life and an example to all who knew him.
A service of love and remembrance will be held at Rouse Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 15, 2025 with Pastors Josh Howell and Virgil Whaley officiating. Committal will follow at Snow Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation on Tuesday, October 14, 2025 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home.
