The second Friday in September has become the standard date for “Wings Over the Neuse,” the single largest fund-raiser for the CSS Neuse Foundation, the caretaker of the full-size replica of the CSS Neuse. This year marks the 17th time “Wings” has taken flight.

Kinston-Valarie Creech Potter, 39, died August 9, 2025. Val was born October 17, 1985 in Lenoir County. A memorial service to remember and honor Val’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 13, 2025 at Rouse Funeral Home. The family will receive friends in the hour prior to the service.

Bobby Brinson, age 82, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Tuesday, September 2, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. A Celebration of Life will be held 11 AM Saturday, September 6th, at the Chapel of Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service with Pastor Blake Dameron officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
