UPDATE: Victim in Sunday night's shooting has died
Sunday night’s shooting incident started with a minor traffic accident in which the parties involved — Shy’mecca Epps and the 17-year-old juvenile and the victim (Amie Heath) and her boyfriend — agreed to settle between themselves and exchange money.
Obituary: Charles F. Wade
Charles F. Wade, Sr of Kinston passed away peacefully on March 5, 2024 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center. A service of love and remembrance will be held on Sunday, March 10, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home. Committal with military honors will follow at Fairview Cemetery. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation on Saturday, March 9, 2024 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home.
Greene Early College hosts successful blood drive event
Greene Early College hosted its first blood drive on Friday, March 1 from 11am-3pm. The event was hosted by GEC HOSA. Alisha Williams, Jensen Lockman, and Coty Starkey from The Blood Connection performed the drive. A total of 20 students and staff participated.

Obituary: Ellen Bruce Hardy Parker
Ellen Bruce Hardy Parker, of Snow Hill, passed away to her Heavenly home on Saturday, March 2, 2024. A service to celebrate Ellen’s life will be held Saturday, March, 9, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Wheat Swamp Christian Church, officiated by Pastor Hank Jarman. The family will receive friends following the service. A private burial will follow at Rainbow United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Sutton and Aiken top vote getters in Lenoir County Commissioner At-Large primary
Linda Rouse Sutton and Sammy C. Aiken were the top vote-getters in the Lenoir County Board of Commissioners At-Large - Democrat Primary race. Sutton and Aiken will face Keith King (Rep) in November for the two At-Large seats.
AP called the governor’s races for both parties: Lt. Governor Mark Robinson will face Attorney General Josh Stein in November.

Ryan Meadows of Greenville has been named the Athletic Director for Lenoir Community College, replacing Shelly Barnes who recently accepted a position at Forsyth Technical Community College. He will assume the position officially on April 2.
