Ryan Meadows Named LCC Athletic Director

Ryan Meadows of Greenville has been named the Athletic Director for Lenoir Community College, replacing Shelly Barnes who recently accepted a position at Forsyth Technical Community College. He will assume the position officially on April 2.

Meadows is no stranger to Lancer Nation as he is currently an adjunct instructor, teaching health and physical education classes. He also has been an assistant coach on the Lancer baseball staff the last two seasons, including part of the 2023 Region X Championship team.

“We are excited to have Coach Meadows join us as our Director of Athletics and Health/PE Instructor,” says LCC President Dr. Rusty Hunt. “He brings a wealth of experience to the College and is a champion on and off the field, and his passion for LCC and his new role is palpable and inspiring. Coach Barnes developed a dynamic program, and we look forward to Coach Meadows’ leadership in excellence on the field and in the classroom.”

“I am extremely excited, and humbled, about the opportunity to work full time in higher education and college athletics at Lenoir Community College,” says Meadows. “I have been a part-time member of the LCC teaching faculty since 2017, and an assistant baseball coach the last two seasons. The positive environment, atmosphere, and culture at LCC is infectious.”

“I have big shoes to fill in the exit of Coach Shelly Barnes,” he said. “She has personally been a great mentor to me and many others for many years. I am going to do everything in my power to keep advancing our athletic program on the upward trajectory in which she has created.”

Meadows brings to LCC an impressive resume. He is currently the Director of Turf Management at North Pitt High School, where he also served as the high school’s Athletics Director from 2010 to 2013. He served as the head varsity baseball coach with North Pitt High School from 2003-2022. His overall record was 311 wins and 155 losses. He set the single season wins record at North Pitt in 2024 with 19, before winning 24 games in two additional seasons. Meadows won the high schools’ first outright Conference Baseball Championship in 2012, as well as additional Conference Championships in 2013 and 2021. Meadows also has experience coaching high school cross country, girls JV basketball, and women’s varsity track and field.

He has experience as the head coach for the Pitt County Post 39 American Legion Baseball, with an impressive record of 148 wins and 57 losses from 2016 to present, including four Area 1 Championships and five State Championship births. He is the creator and operator of the Downeast Baseball Camps organization, one of the most popular and well attended on-field instruction camp series in the state.

Meadows, who currently serves as the Vice President of the North Carolina Baseball Coaches Association (NCBCA), is a national accredited coach, certified by the National Federation of Sports (NFS), and he has certifications in National Strength and Conditioning and Rapsodo Baseball Hitting and Pitching. He has numerous awards and honors, most recently being named the Eastern Plains Conference Varsity Baseball Coach of the Year in 2021, as well as three additional times prior to 2021.
