Pursuant to G.S. 115C-518 and 160A-269, the Lenoir County Board of Education hereby gives notice that it has received an offer to purchase the Teacher’s Memorial School property owned by the Lenoir County Board of Education. The offer to purchase is in the amount of Two Hundred Fifty Thousand Dollars ($250,000.00). Notice is hereby given that prior to November 27, 2023, at 4:00 PM, any person may raise the bid by not less than ten percent (10%) of the first one thousand dollars ($1000) and five percent (5%) of the remainder ($249,000). Therefore, the lowest acceptable upset bid is Two Hundred Sixty-Two Thousand Five Hundred and Fifty Dollars ($262,550.00).

On Sunday, November 12, 2023, members of the Colorado Springs Police Department apprehended Lewis without incident while investigating an unrelated matter. Lewis is being held in their jurisdiction pending extradition back to Kinston, where he will face Armed Robbery charges.

The life and times of Gov. Richard Caswell will be the subject of a celebration planned for Saturday, Nov. 18, at the Gov. Richard Caswell Memorial in Kinston. Ruth Privette, 88, of Newport, formerly of Kinston, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, at the Crystal Coast Hospice House in Newport. Her service will be Saturday, November 18 at 1:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Kinston.

Mary Kathy Hughes Beaman, age 72, passed away Saturday morning, November 11th, 2023. A Service of Death and Resurrection to remember and celebrate Kathy’s life will be held by the graveside 2 PM Tuesday, November 14th, at the Snow Hill Cemetery with Reverend Emily Hamil-Blair officiating. The family will greet friends and extended family at the cemetery immediately following the service.
