After twelve years of committed service on the Kinston City Council, Sammy C. Aiken, a retired 20-year U.S. Navy veteran, has plans for the future of the city he represents. Although he was born and raised in Eden, he’s lived in Kinston for 42 years, and his service stretches beyond his tenure in the Navy. He has contributed to the community, serving on boards and committees.
Increased crime in recent years has brought safety concerns to the forefront of many American’s minds. This is particularly true in our home state of North Carolina, where crime has been on the rise. For example, in Asheville, violent crime increased by 17.4 percent and aggravated assault increased by 21.8 percent from 2021 to 2022.

Lori Carraway Bryant, 63, of Pink Hill, NC, passed away Friday, October 6, 2023, at ECU Health, surrounded by her family. A memorial service will be conducted Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at 6pm at Edwards Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
With 31 years of dedicated service in the United States Marine Corps under his belt, and a further two years serving as Kinston's Mayor Pro Tem, Antonio M. Hardy is no stranger to leadership. A native of Kinston, Hardy has announced his intention to run for City Council in Lenoir County, aiming to continue his mission of being a "voice for the people" and fortifying the connection between city and county.
Greene County Senior Center stirred a lot of sweet memories of their youth with a sock hop on September 29. Also in attendance were some Greene Early College students who went to help but joined in the fun. Decorated in the 50’s-60’s theme, the Senior Center was reminiscence of the attendees’ high school years.

Jean Moore Mallard of Kinston, 85, passed away on October 10, 2023. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 13,2023, at Pinelawn Memorial Park in Kinston.
The Lenoir County Sheriff, Jackie Rogers has confirmed that local law enforcement is at the 200 block of Taylor Heath Road in reference to a home invasion. The authorities are looking for three African-American males in all black wearing ski masks.
The Kinston/Lenoir County Parks and Recreation Department recently announced on their Facebook page that renovations at the Grainger Stadium grandstand are progressing. The next phases of the upgrade process include sandblasting, sealing, and the reinstallation of seating areas.
