TRENTON — Jones County announced that the historic Jones Middle School building will be listed for electronic auction on October 18, 2023. The auction will be conducted via the public platform www.govdeals.com.

The school was utilized and operational from the early 1950's to 2018.  The aftermath of Hurricane Florence in 2018 left the school damaged, leading to the transfer of its middle school students to the High School.  The historic Jones Middle School building has not been used since.

Interested parties can identify the property by its tax parcel identification number, 449843925100. The structure is located at 190 Old New Bern Road in Trenton.

Specific details about the property's construction and valuation can be found in the county's records, which indicate a last appraised value for the entire parcel at $228,930 as of 2022.

The auction notice specifies certain conditions for potential buyers. The property is being sold “as is” and is subject to all recorded exceptions. After the auction concludes, the high bids will be presented to the Jones County Board of Commissioners. They will have a period of 30 days to either accept or reject the bids. Any sale remains contingent upon the Board's approval. Importantly, all bids must be unconditional, with the county reserving the right to reject any and all bids or withdraw the parcel from the auction prior to the commencement of bidding. The auction has set a reserve price at $125,000 that must be achieved for the property to be sold.

Proceeds garnered from the sale of this property are earmarked for the establishment of a new Wellness Center in Jones County, signaling the county's commitment to promoting the health and well-being of its residents.
