Command Sergeant Major James H. “Tom” Parham, 88, of Kinston passed away on Tuesday, April 4, 2023 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Services will be held on Good Friday, April 7. Visitation will begin at 11 am at Howard Carter Funeral Home. Service will follow at 12 p.m. with Pastor Dave Fishman officiating. Burial with full military honors will be held at Westview Cemetery immediately follow the funeral service.
On Tuesday, April 4th, 2023, members of the Kinston Police Department charged a second 17 y/o Kinston juvenile with the murder of 16 y/o Jayden Ellis of Kinston.

On Friday, March 31, Greene Central High School inducted 53 new members into their chapter of the National Technical Honor Society. The new members had to have the following requirements in order to be inducted: 3.0 GPA, having taken at least 2 CTE courses, and most important teacher recommendation.
Friends and supporters along with the family of Gary E. Black recently provided $25,000 in donations that will permanently endow the Gary E. Black Memorial Impact Award. This initiates an annual award within the Lenoir Hospital Foundation to support the cost of continuing education for one non-clinical staff member of UNC Health Lenoir.

Mrs. Annette Louise Tixier West, 78, of Winston-Salem, formerly of Kinston, NC passed away unexpectedly on March 6, 2023, at Forsyth Medical Center. A celebration of life memorial service will be held on April 15, 2023, at 2:00 pm at Gordon Street Christian Church in Kinston (118 East Gordon Street) with the Rev. Doug Stokes officiating. The family will receive friends at a reception immediately following the service in the Fellowship Hall.
