PUBLIC NOTICE: Pink Hill Elementary School Design Consultant RFQ

Lenoir County Public Schools is requesting professional design consultant services to provide full service for the design and construction administration of constructing an additional entrance, driveway, and parking lot at Pink Hill Elementary School. Submit qualifications by 4 p.m. on March 1, 2023. The official selection of the design consultant and approval will be determined following the receipt of proposals.

Rabid Fox Found in Lenoir County

The Lenoir County Health Department received confirmation from the North Carolina State Laboratory that a fox has tested positive for rabies.  The animal was located in the northern part of the county in the Paul’s Path area.  In January, a rabid raccoon was found in southern Lenoir County.  

Road rage shooting leads to woman's arrest

A woman was arrested Thursday afternoon after allegedly shooting at a man during a road rage incident. Gayle Williams, 47, of Hobgood, was arrested at the scene and later placed in Lenoir County Jail after being charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. “I would like to thank members of the Grifton Police Department for locating and safely detaining Ms. Williams,” Lenoir County Sheriff Jackie Rogers said. “Their actions helped prevent a tragic ending to this unnecessary event.”

Kinston Free Press is moving to a weekly Thursday publication

The Kinston Free Press is one of many print newspapers changing how, and when, they are delivered according to an article written by John McClure from the New Bern Sun Journal. “In order to satisfy both and remain healthy on our bottom lines as a business, some of our newspapers such as Goldsboro, New Bern and Jacksonville are going to a Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday weekend edition publication cycle,” McClure wrote. “Roanoke Rapids Herald will publish Tuesdays and Saturdays. Others, like the Kinston Free Press, will be converting to a weekly Thursday publication.”

Obituary: Ms. Dianne Sutton Bradicich

Ms. Dianne Sutton Bradicich, age 74, passed away Tuesday morning, February 14, 2023, at her home in Lenoir County. Funeral Services will be held 2 PM Sunday, February 19th, at the chapel of Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service with Pastor Hank Jarman officiating. Interment will follow at the Westview Cemetery in Kinston. The family will receive friends on Saturday evening from 6 – 8 PM at the funeral home and other times at the home of Ms. Bradicich.
