Abigail Reyes, a 2019 Greene Early College alumni, graduated from University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, on May 8, 2022. Ms. Reyes received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Women and Gender Studies. While at GEC, she earned the honor of 2019 Salutatorian of her class.

According to multiple sources, former NC House Representative and Lenoir County Chairman George Graham has passed away. Graham was born on February 16, 1949. He was 73. Graham served as a member of the NC House from 2013 through 2018 and served the citizens of Lenoir County for over 30 years on the board of commissioners.
Snow Hill Primary gives out a weekly award called "Terrific Kid" awards. Each teacher at SHP chooses a student who has been responsible, shows great character, or has reached a personal goal. A courtroom is not a place where you expect to find scenes of celebration and tears of joy. Unless, of course, it’s drug court. This May, drug courts throughout North Carolina will join more than 4,000 such programs nationwide in celebrating National Drug Court Month.
Vidant Health is participating in the ERASE MM program (Enhancing Reviews and Surveillance to Eliminate Maternal Mortality). “I gave birth” bracelets are given to all birthing persons delivered in all Vidant Health birthing facilities. The bracelets are also being distributed at UNC Nash and UNC Lenoir.
Harmony Campbell of Vanceboro has been selected Lenoir Community College’s Academic Excellence Award recipient for 2022 and is recognized as one of the Great 58 in the North Carolina Community College System.
On Friday, May 13, 2022, at approximately 6:29 pm officers from the Kinston Police Department responded to the 400 block of Atlantic Avenue in reference to a call of shots fired in the area. Upon arrival, officers located a 17 year old male victim suffering from gunshot wounds.
If owner Jim Capps wouldn’t have lost his job 25 years ago, Capps Trailers would not be celebrating a quarter century in business. He set up shop at a desk inside his father’s business, and found his way into the trailer business. Today he offers a wide range of boat, utility, and equipment trailers.
Lenoir County Sheriff Ronnie Ingram and the Lenoir County Manager Michael James were unable to come to a consensus on how to purchase an armored vehicle for the county. Previously the county voted to approve the purchase with the understanding that the county manager and the sheriff would work together figuring out how to pay for it.
Cassidee Fraser, a 6th grader at Contentnea-Savannah Middle School is NCRunners Rising Star for North Carolina. She is undefeated in the 200m this season.
Greene Early College 2017 alumni, Shontia Blount, marks a first in GEC’s history; she returned to her alma mater to join the teaching staff. After graduating from GEC and LCC with her Associate’s in 2017, Ms. Blount completed her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Fayetteville State University in 2020. Returning to GEC, she began her teaching career.
As the end of early voting draws near and we move closer toward the May 17th Primary, I wanted to put my feelings down on paper and try to convey in written word what this election means not only for myself but for Lenoir County.
