Vidant Health and UNC Lenoir participating in program to eliminate maternal mortality

Vidant Health is participating in the ERASE MM program (Enhancing Reviews and Surveillance to Eliminate Maternal Mortality). “I gave birth” bracelets are given to all mothers and birthing persons delivered in all Vidant Health birthing facilities. The bracelets are also being distributed at UNC Nash and UNC Lenoir.

The goal would be to have all facilities using these within the following year. Many medical emergencies can occur in the post-partum period. In ENC, one major complication is preeclampsia or eclampsia. A post-partum individual with high blood pressure would require different treatment than someone with hypertension.

Samuel Kornegay assisted with reaching out to all emergency managers here in ENC to bring awareness and education to all emergency personnel. The perinatal outreach team with ECU Health (Vidant Health) consists of Dr. Jim deVente, Jennifer Kendrick MSN, RN-C EFM, and Robin Raynor MSN, RN. This team provides simulations in obstetrical units and Emergency rooms across the East, bringing awareness to these obstetrical emergencies.

The CDC funded the first distribution of these bracelets through the ERASE- Enhancing Reviews and Surveillance to Eliminate Maternal Mortality https://www.cdc.gov/reproductivehealth/maternal-mortality/erase-mm/index.html
