Parrott Academy welcomes new head of school
David Moody of Kinston will lead Arendell Parrott Academy as Head of School beginning in August. Moody has most recently served as an Assistant Superintendent in Jones County. He has seven years of experience as an administrator at both the elementary and high school levels and served as the county Director of Curriculum and Instruction. He is currently completing his Doctorate in Education at East Carolina University. He also has a Master’s in School Administration from E.C.U.

Kinston Regional Jetport receives $2.5 million grant from NCDOT
On Thursday, August 5th the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) announced a State Economic Development Funds grant in the amount of $2,500,000.00 for the Kinston Regional Jetport in Kinston, NC.

Social House Vodka has launched The PumpHouse 1906 Cocktail Bar & Social House at its distillery in Kinston, located at 906 Atlantic Ave. “We will have our grand opening [Saturday] which will be available to the public,” said Dean Daughety, Distillery Experience and Private Events Manager at Social House Vodka. “We will be open at 11 am and go all the way until 11 pm. We will have live music, tents set up outside, and corn hole. It will be a fun time.”

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services’ vaccine data dashboard now includes county-level vaccination information from federal providers, including the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, U.S. Department of Defense, Federal Bureau of Prisons and Indian Health Service.

$413 million in summer food assistance benefits being Issued by NCDHHS to 1.1 million children
The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services has begun issuing $413 million in food assistance payments to an estimated 1.1 million eligible children through the Summer Pandemic Electronic Benefits Transfer food assistance program. Children who are eligible for the summer receive a one-time payment of $375 on their family’s P-EBT card.

Today, amid higher COVID-19 numbers statewide, Governor Roy Cooper again urged North Carolinians to get vaccinated. He also announced the third winner of North Carolina’s Your Shot at $1 Million Summer Cash Drawing. Winston-Salem resident and incoming Fayetteville State University freshman Audrey Chavous received the $1 million prize as part of the cash drawing that includes North Carolinians 18 and over who have received a COVID-19 vaccine.

Salisbury, M.D. – After taking the 3-2 lead in the top of the seventh, the Down East Wood Ducks lost 4-3 on a walk off single in the bottom of the ninth to the Delmarva Shorebirds on Tuesday night. After winning four of their last five games to end July, the Wood Ducks pitching staff starts the month of August with their 12th lead surrendered loss of the season.
