#BIGKIDSCLUB4L: For the next Digital Media Specialist

Written by Gracie Herring and Taylor Fussell

Over the last two and a half years I have had the privilege of working with the best team in Lenoir County. I was 15, almost 16 when I applied for the 2019 Summer Internship. All I knew was that I loved social media and I loved Kinston. Not only did that summer change me for the better, but I was lucky enough to officially join the team, and I have been here ever since.

Being a high schooler working in an office with a bunch of adults may seem boring, but I think Taylor and I brought out the light in everyone that they didn’t know they had, and we get to leave with all of the things they have taught us. I never once had the chance to doubt our abilities to go out into the field when needed, or update a social media post out of office, because I was surrounded by adults that believed in me.

From Facebook lives during hurricanes, to making TikToks all day, I have learned so much about myself and so much about the importance of relationships in the workplace. I know no matter where I go, I will always have a family to come back to in downtown Kinston.

Together, Taylor and I had the chance to do things and meet people that the average Joe might not have the opportunity to. Working every day with my best friend was phenomenal, but getting to do life and learn together is something I will always be thankful for. Taylor has made the last year of my time here so much fun, and I couldn’t imagine life without her!

This past year I have made some of the best memories and have been provided with endless opportunities. When I came in on my first day, I knew this place was going to soon hold a special place in my heart. This job is truly the best ever. I always looked forward to going to work and what the day or week might hold.

One of the most important things I have learned working here is, relationships mean more than anything. From goofing around with clients to the endless laughter in the office, I hope these people know how much they mean to me and how much of an impact they have made on our lives. These people are not only co-workers but they are truly family to us. I will forever cherish this place and the relationships made.

To the next digital media specialist: Always take your pictures facing the window, because if there is light behind you then you will be dark. Relationships are always greater than money, so make sure to treat our clients with love (they might even become your besties). You CAN fit all the waters in the fridge, I promise, it just might need a little organizing. Never be afraid to speak up for yourself. If you have an idea, share it! If you disagree, let them know! And lastly, this will be one of the best jobs you’ll ever have, so take in every moment and take care of the big kids club for us.

Wherever life may take us, we will never forget how much of an impact this job has made on our lives. #BIGKIDSCLUB4L
