The Animal Welfare Section of the Veterinary Division of the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services recently awarded nine community shelters grants as part of the Animal Shelter Support Fund program. These funds will be used to help shelters improve their facilities to better comply with the Animal Welfare Act.
The Ultimate Body Shop, known for its collision work, has undergone a change in ownership, heralding the arrival of Pitstop Car and Truck Accessories to the Kinston community. Situated at 1710 W New Bern Rd, the establishment was acquired by Derrick Stalnaker, Chris Davis and their family, natives of Kinston.
Governor Roy Cooper announced $1.3 million in grants to 42 public school districts and public charter schools across North Carolina to expand access to healthy school breakfast for more than 51,000 students. The NC Innovative School Breakfast Grants were funded through federal funds directed by the Governor in October 2023.

In January, 2024, KPD's Violent Crime Action Team (VCAT) responded to drug complaints related to Iverson Ward. VCAT Detectives conducted an investigation and on February 27, 2024, obtained a search warrant for Ward's residence.
A-Squad was conducting a license checkpoint on Hwy 11 and Liberty Hill Road. Dorian Powell approached the checkpoint and officers observed narcotic violations. During the investigations, officers located cocaine and marijuana.
Greene County Schools is celebrating a significant milestone as they move closer to completing the construction of a new Greene Central High School. The district announced Tuesday they are the recipients of a $12 million supplemental grant, bringing them one step closer to realizing their vision for the state-of-the-art educational facility.

Officers on D-Squad made contact with Anthony Gilliam (51 of Wilson) and Tahrique Watson (27 of Wilson) for a possible Trespass violation. During this incident, officers located a concealed firearm.
South Lenoir High School student Campbell Price has won the 2024 Miss Neuse Pageant.
Shannan Harrison, a dedicated parent and volunteer in Lenoir County schools for over 13 years, has announced her candidacy for the Lenoir County School Board seat in the upcoming 2024 election. Harrison's decision to run stems from her desire to bring about positive change and advocate for the needs of teachers, students, and parents within the school district.

In downtown Kinston, Mary’s Kitchen stands as a beacon of hope and nourishment for those in need. Established in July 1984 by the Rev. Dr. John Russell, the Rector of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church at the time, Mary’s Kitchen has been providing meals to individuals regardless of their circumstances.
Teenagers will have the opportunity to raise awareness about teen dating violence through the "Love Like That" Spoken Word Event organized by SAFE in Lenoir County. The event, aimed at educating and preventing teen dating violence, seeks to shed light on a prevalent yet often unspoken issue among youth.
