This is an update to the death of a child that occurred in Lenoir County on Nov. 26, 2022. On Friday, the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office obtained arrest warrants for Brittany Evon Strickland, 32, and Michelle Evon Strickland, 50, both of Jackson County.
On Saturday, the CSS Neuse Museum staff will be holding an antique roadshow event at the museum. The staff can’t place value on the items, but the staff will be there to help identify any old antiques you may be wondering what they are. The event is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. to about 4:00 p.m.

The event will serve as a way to engage Greene County Schools students and their families in a fun and positive manner before the school year begins.
The Down East Wood Ducks will host this year’s Kinston-Lenoir Battle of the Badges on August 19th-20th, 2023. This two-day softball tournament will be held at Historic Grainger Stadium beginning at 8 am on Saturday.
Officers from C-Squad encountered Jarviel Johnson (23) during a narcotic investigation. During the encounter, Officers located a concealed firearm, During the discovery of the firearm, Johnson began actively resisting. Johnson was arrested and placed in the LC Jail under a secured bond.
Lenoir Community College Welding Instructor Justin Harvell of Goldsboro was recently selected by Welding Equipment Manufacturers Committee (WEMCO) as the recipient of the 2023 Excellence in Welding Award in the Educator category, a distinction awarded to one individual across the country.
Following a joint investigation by the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office and the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, two men have been arrested for trafficking methamphetamine.

On Tuesday, July 18, 2023, a group of Lenoir County 4-H members visited the campus of NC State University in Raleigh. The 4-H’ers toured the Wilson College of Textiles, the Plant Sciences Initiative, and the Gregg Museum of Art and Design.

During the month of July 2023, members of the Kinston Police Department’s Investigations Division and the departments Violent Criminal Action Team were able to obtain vital information in the case. This information led detectives to obtain warrants for Ernest McCotter (31) of Hampton, VA and Deshawn Maye (30) of Kinston for the murder of Jerome Gadson on March 14th, 2021.
