Arrest warrants issued in tragic death of 6-year-old child
This is an update to the death of a child that occurred in Lenoir County on Nov. 26, 2022. On Friday, the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office obtained arrest warrants for Brittany Evon Strickland, 32, and Michelle Evon Strickland, 50, both of Jackson County.
CSS Neuse Museum will host an antique roadshow on Saturday
On Saturday, the CSS Neuse Museum staff will be holding an antique roadshow event at the museum. The staff can’t place value on the items, but the staff will be there to help identify any old antiques you may be wondering what they are. The event is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. to about 4:00 p.m.

Down East Wood Ducks host Kinston-Lenoir Battle of the Badges softball game
The Down East Wood Ducks will host this year’s Kinston-Lenoir Battle of the Badges on August 19th-20th, 2023. This two-day softball tournament will be held at Historic Grainger Stadium beginning at 8 am on Saturday.
KPD apprehend suspect with concealed firearm in narcotic investigation
Officers from C-Squad encountered Jarviel Johnson (23) during a narcotic investigation. During the encounter, Officers located a concealed firearm, During the discovery of the firearm, Johnson began actively resisting. Johnson was arrested and placed in the LC Jail under a secured bond.
LCC Welding Instructor Recognized Nationwide
Lenoir Community College Welding Instructor Justin Harvell of Goldsboro was recently selected by Welding Equipment Manufacturers Committee (WEMCO) as the recipient of the 2023 Excellence in Welding Award in the Educator category, a distinction awarded to one individual across the country.
Men arrested on meth charges following joint investigation
Following a joint investigation by the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office and the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, two men have been arrested for trafficking methamphetamine.
Jones County Recreations “Back to School Bash” on Saturday, August 5th
This event provides Jones County Students with backpacks, snacks, health information, and free health screenings. In addition, we have invited and encouraged area businesses, churches, non-profits, and partner organizations to come participate and promote their services as well. Lenoir County 4-H visits NC State University
On Tuesday, July 18, 2023, a group of Lenoir County 4-H members visited the campus of NC State University in Raleigh. The 4-H’ers toured the Wilson College of Textiles, the Plant Sciences Initiative, and the Gregg Museum of Art and Design.

Lenoir Community College is now offering a Medical Assisting Diploma Program in addition to its degree program. This program will allow students to complete their medical assistant education and training in three semesters.

From Cold to Closed: Update on Kinston's 2021 homicide
During the month of July 2023, members of the Kinston Police Department’s Investigations Division and the departments Violent Criminal Action Team were able to obtain vital information in the case. This information led detectives to obtain warrants for Ernest McCotter (31) of Hampton, VA and Deshawn Maye (30) of Kinston for the murder of Jerome Gadson on March 14th, 2021.

Kinston Police apprehend robbery suspects
