Snow Hill Primary gives out a weekly award called "Terrific Kid" awards. Each teacher at SHP chooses a student who has been responsible, shows great character, or has reached a personal goal. On Fridays, these students are presented with an award and are congratulated for their hard work. Below are Snow Hill Primary's last Terrific Kids!
Community rallies for Colby's fight against eye cancer with car show benefit
A car show is planned for June 17 at Lenoir Community College to benefit 2-year-old Colby Clayton of La Grange who has been diagnosed with a very rare and aggressive Retinoblastoma, cancer of the eye. The benefit will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Registration will be held from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. with prizes awarded at 2:30 p.m.
Inmate and Woman Charged with Felony Narcotic Conspiracy
A male inmate currently being held at Kinston’s W.E. Billy Smith Detention Center and a Rocky Mount woman not in the jail have had warrants sworn against them for felony conspiracy to smuggle narcotics into the facility, among other charges.

Dr. Justin Tilghman, a Kinston native and proud alumnus of Kinston High, has dedicated his life to helping others find their purpose and fulfillment. His journey has led him to author a new book titled "Pursuing Your Purpose," which is aimed at guiding readers through a process of self-discovery and intentional living.
Rochelle Middle School students win 9/11 competition award
Local students in Lenoir and Greene Counties were recently recognized for their outstanding work in Greene Lamp's 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance Program. The competition, which was open to middle and high school students, asked participants to submit an original essay, song, or poem on their reflection and research regarding the impact of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

Snow Hill - On Thursday, April 20, the Greene County Friends of the Library held its Annual Meeting. At the Meeting, current Friends of the Library members are invited to a dinner with entertainment in recognition of their membership at the City Club.
Local Companies come together to support LCC student scholarships at Golf Classic
First National Bank of Kinston is the Putting Contest Sponsor of this year’s 22nd annual Lenoir Community College Golf Classic on Thursday, May 18, at the Kinston Country Club. This event has raised more than $600,000 toward student scholarships at LCC since its inception. Nearly 130 golfers played in the tournament last year, and the Foundation is expecting an even better attendance this year.
Changes coming soon to 2,647 LGFCU members in Kinston
Local Government Federal Credit Union (LGFCU) is ending its partnership with State Employees Credit Union (SECU) which will result in LGFCU customers losing access to physical bank branches. There are 2,647 LGFCU members in Kinston.

Tidal Wave Car Wash to replace former Golden Corral site
A new car wash is set to take over the site of the former Golden Corral restaurant at 4468 US-70, Kinston, NC 28504. The Tidal Wave Car Wash project has received permits and will soon begin construction, replacing the once-popular dining establishment.
Local authors publish a book on eastern North Carolina gospel groups
Alvin Woods and Elijah Woods Jr. recently published a book on the history of gospel groups in eastern North Carolina. The book, which was published in May 2020, identifies 81 different gospel groups in the region.

Cold case reopened: The search for missing teen Timeka Pridgen continues
Lenoir County Sheriff Jackie Rogers announced today his office is actively investigating the case of Timeka Pridgen, who was reported missing from her South Street home in La Grange on May 12, 2001. Pridgen was 16 when she went missing.
