Gas shortages reported after State of Emergency declared

One of the largest pipelines in the United States was shut down due to a cybersecurity attack which led to Governor Roy Cooper declaring a State of Emergency for North Carolina. Colonial Pipeline, the primary fuel pipeline for North Carolina reported a ransomware cyberattack which resulted in a temporary shutdown of that line.

“I went to six gas stations this morning through La Grange and Kinston to finally find gas at almost $3.00 a gallon,” said local resident Kaitlin Randolph.

Sorority celebrates 108th Founders Day

The Kinston Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated recently celebrated the Sorority’s 108th Founders Day. The chapter’s theme for the event, “Deltas Can Do Virtually Anything”, was illustrated as planned with a day filled with inspirational speech and spoken word, fun and games, and pictorial show via Zoom.

George Whitfield book launch held at Parrott Academy

A book launch event for Covering All the Bases: George Whitfield’s Extraordinary Life in Baseball was held at Ellis Simon Gymnasium on Parrott Academy’s campus May 3rd. The just-released book was authored by Bethany Bradsher, a Greenville journalist and writer known for numerous North Carolina sports books including Coaching Third about ECU baseball coach Keith LeClair and The Classic about the Dixie Classic basketball tournament.

North Lenoir’s Drama Department returns to the stage

Since 1988, the North Lenoir High School Drama Department has produced professional quality musical theatre performances, 66 to be exact, bringing light and life to the stage each fall and spring. With the onset of COVID-19, for the first time in over thirty years and in the middle of production for the 2020 spring musical, seats remained empty, piano keys grew dusty, and students’ voices no longer echoed against auditorium walls. The light had gone out.

Kinston to have second point of delivery

The city of Kinston announced that the second Point of Delivery (POD) construction is moving along.

“Most cities our size have more than one point of delivery,” said Public Services Director Rhonda Barwick. “If that connection to our supplier should fail or is damaged the entire customer base would be without power until it could be re-energized.”
