On Monday, September 20, 2021, at approximately 5:10 am, Kinston Police Officers responded to a call of a person who was shot near the intersection of Pollock Street and W. Washington Avenue, Kinston N.C. Officers arrived on scene and located Rashad O’Neil, 25, and Micro Croom, 59, both of Kinston suffering from gunshot wounds. Emergency Medical Personnel arrived and transported O’Neil to Vidant Medical Center and Croom was pronounced deceased
The Lenoir County Sheriff's Office was alerted a short time ago about a threat that was received by students at North Lenoir High School regarding violence that would occur today. Numerous deputies from the Sheriff's Office were sent to provide security at North Lenoir High School and to investigate the information.
The Craven County Sheriff’s Office, Duplin County Sheriff’s Office, Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office, and the Drug Enforcement administration (DEA) investigated the case and Assistant U.S. Attorneys Dena J. King and Scott A. Lemmon prosecuted the case.

During the investigation Detectives made multiple controlled purchases of crystal methamphetamine from Day in the Lenoir County area. Detectives seized just over three ounces of crystal methamphetamine during the investigation.
On July 21, 2021, Joshua Zachariah Allen Lane of Kinston, North Carolina was arrested, pursuant to a narcotics investigation conducted by the Lenoir County Sheriff's Office Narcotics Unit. During the investigation Detectives made multiple controlled purchases of crystal methamphetamine from Lane in the Lenoir County area. Detectives seized just over four ounces of crystal methamphetamine during the investigation.
On Thursday, July 15, 2021, around 6 p.m., members of the Kinston Police Department located the suspect vehicle on the 900 block of E. Highland Ave. During the course of the investigation detectives were able to identify, Jaquan Sutton, 22, of Kinston as the driver of the vehicle used in the commission of the crime. Sutton was arrested without incident and charged with Attempted Murder.
On Monday, July 12, 2021, at approximately 10:37 pm, Kinston Police Officers responded to a call of a person who was shot in the area of the 700 block of Harding Avenue. Despite life-saving measures, Terrence Plymouth, 22, of Kinston, died at the scene. The assailant(s) fled the area in an unknown direction. This is still an active investigation and anyone with information is asked to contact the Kinston Police Department.

On June 30, 2021, Officer Jones with the Kinston Police Department conducted a vehicle stop on W. Vernon Ave. for a traffic violation. During the vehicle stop over 20 pounds of marijuana were located inside the vehicle.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Tyris Davontae Edmondson, 26, of 702 Doctors Drive, Kinston. Edmondson was charged with insurance fraud, obtaining property by false pretense and burning personal property, all felonies, along with a misdemeanor count of making a false report to police.
At around 4 p.m. today, the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shooting at 405 Central Avenue in Kinston. Two residents were shot; one is deceased.

At approximately 6 a.m. today at a residence on Railroad Street in La Grange, the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office assisted the NCSBI Criminal Apprehension Team, Greenville Police Department and Greene County Sheriff’s Office in apprehending two wanted suspects with active attempted murder warrants by those agencies.
Earlier this evening Joseph Dixon Hughes was apprehended in Wayne County by the Kinston Police Department with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Service, and the Goldsboro Police Department.
