Lenoir Community College (LCC) and East Carolina University (ECU) have strengthened their commitment to student success and workforce development with the signing of a new bilateral transfer agreement. The ceremony was held Wednesday, September 24, at ECU’s Science and Technology Building.
East Carolina University, located in Greenville, traces its origins to the East Carolina Teachers Training School, which came into existence amid substantial controversy in 1907. After competing with seven other localities, Greenville was chosen as the site for the campus, largely because of Pitt County's offer of 243 acres and $100,000 for a new facility.
Lenoir County Public Schools (LCPS) students showcased their scientific prowess at the Regional Science and Engineering Fair held on Feb. 15 at East Carolina University, winning over 50% of the awards. The school board recognized the students at its March 3rd board meeting.

LCPS Board of Education member, Dr. Kimberly Outlaw-Starkey, wears many hats in her life. On top of representing District 3 in the Board of Education, she’s a psychotherapist, teaches multiple courses at several universities, and writes textbooks in her spare time.
Advancing her skills and efficiency is something Kinston native Chelsea West prioritizes for herself. Currently majoring in Management at East Carolina University, West is on track to completing her Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts degrees, hoping to pursue her Master’s in Business Administration one day.
Logan Mozingo, a native of Kinston, was recently initiated into the East Carolina University Circle of Omicron Delta Kappa, the National Leadership Honor Society. The Society welcomed 1,869 new initiates from 78 universities during April 2023.
I worked with Professor John Hoppenthaler for several years after he joined the faculty of East Carolina’s Department of English. He brought energy and enthusiasm to the classes he taught. His role at ECU is Professor of English and Creative Writing, and he serves as the co-director of the ECU Contemporary Writers Series.

2016 Miss Kinston-Lenoir County and former Down East Wood Ducks intern Lily Faulconer is now a member of the East Carolina University Alumni Association board of directors. The ECU Alumni Association approved six new members to join its board of directors recently. The board operates to provide strategic direction, resources and professional expertise to carry out the university’s alumni engagement objectives. The elected members joined the board in July and will serve three-year terms that end in 2024.
A high school student from Lenoir County is among 20 selected for the EC Scholars program at East Carolina University.
