Transfer Agreement Between LCC and ECU Expands Opportunities for Students
Lenoir Community College (LCC) and East Carolina University (ECU) have strengthened their commitment to student success and workforce development with the signing of a new bilateral transfer agreement. The ceremony was held Wednesday, September 24, at ECU’s Science and Technology Building.
Through the partnership, students completing LCC’s Associate in Applied Science degrees in Automotive Systems Technology, Aviation Management, Business Administration, Career Pilot Manned, Industrial Systems Technology, Information Technology/Networking, Manned Pilot, Pilot Unmanned Aircraft Systems, and Welding Technology are guaranteed admission into ECU’s nationally recognized Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology (BSIT) program, provided they hold an overall 2.0 GPA. Eligible students will transfer 53–56 credit hours toward their four-year degree.
ECU’s nationally recognized BSIT program prepares students for high-demand careers across multiple fields. The program offers seven concentrations—architecture design technology, bioprocess manufacturing, distribution and logistics, industrial management, industrial engineering technology, information and cybersecurity technology, and mechanical design technology. Five of these concentrations can be completed fully online, providing flexible options for students balancing work and education.
Allen Guidry, ECU’s Associate Provost of Learner Operations, described the agreement as “the tip of the spear for us, as we continue to partner in meaningful ways to reduce barriers for students. It’s a sign of what’s to come as we work together to address the workforce needs of eastern North Carolina. I can’t think of two institutions better suited to meet those needs.”
LCC President Dr. Rusty Hunt said the partnership demonstrates the College’s strong commitment to both students and industry. “We’re excited about the opportunities this agreement creates. It allows us to offer students not just a two-year degree, but a clear pathway to a four-year degree and beyond,” Hunt said. He added that the collaboration will extend into joint projects at ECU and LCC’s Senator Jim Perry Aviation Center for Excellence: “This partnership is going to another level. Together we’ll provide the training and advanced education our region’s workforce needs.”
The agreement underscores both institutions’ shared mission to expand educational access, strengthen the pipeline of skilled workers, and serve the economic growth of eastern North Carolina.
