Evelyn Dove Coleman: Family & Friends Day

Evelyn Dove Coleman: Family & Friends Day

When I asked about the recent service at Emmanuel Hill Church where Rev. Veronica Jackson is pastor, it was described as having been phenomenal.   I had  been invited to attend their "Family & Friends" observance, but I was not able to attend. It was on a weekend when I was pulled in several different directions but could only go in one.  At my age, and with my health issues, I am even more of a homebody than I used to be already.  So, I didn't go to the conference or to the church.

I really wanted to attend the service because the guest speaker was Judge Sonya Stocks Davis. Her late father Chester Stocks was one of my 4-H Advisors. And I had been in the Salvation Army Auxiliary with her awesome mother, Mallie Stocks and my cousin Betty Joyner.  So I wanted to hear Judge Davis speak.  I was told that she spoke on Psalm 133 and described how the oil ran down from Aaron's beard on down to his garments. The theme was unity.  Minister Deborah Moore-Marshall said the day was wonderful.

I am persuaded that when we have an opportunity to hear this speaker, we had better go. She is described as thorough and detailed in her research and dynamic in her delivery.  What a fitting theme for the day that brethren can dwell together in unity and be blessed.  We can all work together and make our community the best. The last five letters of community do spell unity.
