Hope to Destiny for Youth holds fourth annual book bag giveaway
Hope to Destiny for Youth held its fourth annual Book Bag and School Supply Giveaway on Saturday, Aug. 22, distributing about 150 book bags filled with school supplies to local children and families.
The nonprofit organization has held the annual event for four consecutive years as part of its effort to help children begin the school year prepared and confident while easing the cost of back-to-school supplies for families.
Head Chairperson Curtis Henderson said the event reflects the organization’s commitment to community service.
“It’s a blessing to be able to give back to my community,” Henderson said. “Seeing the children receive their book bags and supplies makes all the hard work worth it. This is our fourth year, and we are proud to continue serving our children. I just wish more city and county officials would support our community a little better, because there are many organizations and individuals working hard to make a difference.”
Henderson said the giveaway was made possible through support from local businesses, organizations, volunteers, family members and friends.
Hope to Destiny for Youth gave special thanks to the Kinston Fire Department for a large donation and for firefighters who attended the event and stayed throughout the giveaway. The organization also thanked Annie Bees, Bob’s Auto, Sam’s Hair Shop and AHeart2Give for substantial donations.
“We cannot do this alone,” Henderson said. “Every donation, every volunteer hour and every person who showed up to help matters. We are grateful to everyone who believes in what Hope to Destiny for Youth is trying to accomplish.”
Hope to Destiny for Youth is a community-based nonprofit organization that supports young people and families through educational initiatives, youth development, community outreach and programs designed to create positive opportunities for children.
