Major Shawn Howard retires after career with Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office

Major Shawn Howard is retiring after spending his entire law enforcement career with the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office.

Howard was recognized during a luncheon provided for the sheriff’s office by Kinston Realty Group. During the event, Howard described his departure as bittersweet but said he and his family are looking forward to retirement.

“I’ve worked with the sheriff’s office ever since I started my law enforcement career,” Howard said. “I’ve seen four different sheriffs come through and had the privilege of working for each one of them.”

Howard said one of the highlights of his career has been watching law enforcement services grow and advance in Lenoir County.

“That’s just been a blessing within itself, being a citizen myself and knowing what type of law enforcement services are provided to our citizens,” Howard said. “It’s been a privilege to be able to serve in that capacity.”

Sheriff Jackie Rogers congratulated Howard on his retirement and recognized his years of service.

“He has spent his whole entire career at the sheriff’s office, and that is a well-deserved day for him,” Rogers said. “We want to congratulate him and offer our best wishes in the future.”

The luncheon was part of Kinston Realty Group’s effort to support local public safety agencies. Stacey Humphrey said the group previously provided a meal for the Kinston Police Department in the spring and planned to serve the sheriff’s office in the fall. When the group contacted the sheriff’s office, it was invited to provide the meal during Howard’s retirement luncheon.

“We’re just trying to give back to the community,” Humphrey said.

Jess Edwards and other members of the Kinston Realty Group team helped prepare and serve the meal.
