Lenoir County K-9 Fuse Recovering After Medical Emergency

Lenoir County K-9 Fuse Recovering After Medical Emergency

On Sunday, July 16, 2026, Deputy Harrelson and his K-9 partner, Fuse, completed their shift at 6:00 p.m. and returned home for the evening.

Approximately one hour later, Deputy Harrelson noticed that Fuse was showing signs of Gastric Dilatation-Volvulus (GDV), commonly known as a “stomach flip.” Recognizing the seriousness of the situation, Deputy Harrelson immediately placed Fuse in his patrol vehicle and transported him to an emergency veterinary hospital in Greenville.

Fuse was taken into surgery immediately and remained in Greenville overnight. Early Monday morning, Deputy Harrelson transported Fuse to Wilson Emergency Veterinary Hospital, where he continued his recovery.

We are happy to report that Fuse was able to return home last night with Deputy Harrelson.

The doctors praised Deputy Harrelson for recognizing the signs and acting so quickly. GDV is a life-threatening emergency, and without immediate treatment, the outcome could have been fatal.

Deputy Harrelson’s quick thinking and immediate action made all the difference. We are thankful that Fuse is home and recovering, and we appreciate the dedication Deputy Harrelson showed not only as a law enforcement officer, but as a K-9 handler and partner to Fuse.

Please keep Fuse in your thoughts and Prayers as he continues his recovery. We look forward to seeing him back on duty when he is ready.
