Traffic Stop Leads to Firearm and Drug Charges
On June 2, 2026, at approximately 2:08 a.m., Kinston Police Department B-Squad officers conducted a traffic stop on Pollock Street after observing a traffic violation.
Officers made contact with the driver, 24-year-old Kemario Mumford. During the traffic stop, officers observed indicators of narcotics activity. A records check also revealed that Mumford had two unrelated Orders for Arrest.
Mumford was taken into custody on the outstanding Orders for Arrest. During a subsequent search, officers located a concealed handgun inside the vehicle.
In addition to the outstanding Orders for Arrest, Mumford was charged with the following:
- Felony Carrying Concealed Gun
- Possession of Schedule VI Controlled Substance
- Driving While License Revoked (DWLR)
- Failure to Stop at a Stop Sign
Mumford was transported to the Lenoir County Jail, where he was held without bond.
