Traffic stop leads to cocaine arrests

On May 16, 2026, at approximately 9:31 p.m., officers with the Kinston Police Department’s D-Squad conducted a traffic stop on West Bright Street for a motor vehicle violation.

During the stop, officers removed the occupants from the vehicle and discovered a concealed firearm in the driver’s waistband. The driver was identified as 28-year-old Grant Lee of Tarboro. Lee is a concealed handgun permit holder and failed to notify officers of the firearm as required by North Carolina law.

K9 Kilo conducted an open-air sniff of the vehicle and gave a positive indication for the presence of narcotics. A subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of cocaine.

Lee and a passenger, 38-year-old Jessica Davenport of Hobgood, were arrested without incident and transported to the Lenoir County Jail.
