Recovery Together ENC Center Highlights Harm Reduction Efforts During Recovery Court Month

The Community Recovery Division of the Lenoir County Health Department in partnership with the Greene County Department of Public Health and the Recovery Together ENC Center are proud to join communities across the nation in recognizing Recovery Court Month, a time dedicated to honoring the strength, resilience, and commitment of individuals progressing through local Recovery Courts—and the community partners who stand beside them every step of the way.

This year, the Community Recovery Division and the RTENC Center are shining a spotlight on the critical role of harm reduction in helping the 9th Judicial District Recovery Court participants move toward longterm wellness and stability.  The Recovery Together ENC Center provides practical, judgment-free services that meet people where they are. These services include access to naloxone, safeuse supplies, education, peer support, and pathways to treatment—each designed to reduce risks associated with substance use while building trust and empowering individuals on their journey.

Harm Reduction Strengthens Recovery Courts
Harm reduction strategies work handinhand with the goals of Recovery Courts by keeping individuals safer and healthier, which in turn improves program engagement and outcomes. These efforts support:

  • Increased program success

  • Reduced recidivism

  • Improved readiness for treatment, employment, and family responsibilities

Celebrating the Community
During Recovery Court Month, the RTENC Center celebrates the courage of participants and honors the professionals, peer support specialists, and community partners who walk with them. Together, they are transforming lives and strengthening communities across Eastern North Carolina—one connection at a time.

Evidence-Based Harm Reduction Outcomes
The Recovery Together ENC Center utilizes proven, measurable strategies that make a direct impact on Recovery Court participants, including:

  • Naloxone Availability: Training and distribution that provides up to 98% survival in overdose reversal.

  • SafeUse Education:  Training and distribution of fentanyl testing strips.

  • Peer Engagement: Coaching and livedexperience support that reduce hospital visits and accelerate recovery initiation.

  • Financial Efficiency: Every dollar invested yields substantial returns through reduced healthcare costs, improved program effectiveness, family reunification and safer communities.

“Harm reduction doesn’t just save lives—it creates pathways for people to thrive,” said Colleen Kosinski, Recovery Together ENC Center Community Liaison. “These approaches empower Recovery Court participants and strengthen the wellbeing of families and communities throughout Eastern North Carolina.”
