Kathy Ward Thompson March 28, 1952 - July 7, 2026
It’s with heavy hearts that the family of Kathy (Ward) Thompson of Huntersville, NC announces her passing on July 7, 2026 at the age of 74.
Born March 28, 1952 in Mount Olive, NC, she resided nearly her entire life in her home state, growing up in eastern North Carolina and raising her two sons in the Sandhills region, later retiring to the Charlotte area. Kathy was a private and devoted person whose greatest source of joy was her family. She loved her grandchildren, sons and brothers deeply and never missed an opportunity to tell them. Known for her selfless spirit, she always encouraged others to care for one another and themselves.
She also had an exceptional green thumb and found happiness cultivating and sharing her beautiful plants with family members.
Kathy is survived by her sons Mike Thompson and wife, Lisa and Jason Thompson and his wife, Neri; her grandchildren, Jacob, Cooper, and Luke (Mike and Lisa), and Maddy, Dylan, and Max (Jason and Neri); her brothers Doug Ward (Gail) and Dennis Ward (Sheree) and sister-in-law Kaye Adams Ward; and her stepsisters Shelia Eastham Jackson (Tim) and Michelle Eastham Landrum.
She was preceded in death by her mother Rosa Rogers Ward Eastham, stepfather Lonnie “Bill” Herring, brother Kenny Ray Ward, and stepbrother James Herring Eastham.
The family will receive friends for a time of visitation at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2026 at Rouse Funeral Home (108 N. Caswell Street, La Grange, NC 28551). A memorial service will follow once everyone has had an opportunity to visit with the family. Family and friends are invited to attend and share their favorite memories and photographs.
Kathy will be fondly remembered for her quiet strength, kind heart, and unwavering love for her family.
