Obituary: William Reed Lovick
William Reed Lovick, 70, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, May 5, 2026.
Born on January 24, 1956, "Reed" was the son of the late Milton "Mac" and Marjorie Conway Lovick. A man of many talents, he spent his life building and creating. In the 1980s, he proudly carried on the family legacy by working at Lovick’s Café. He later served as a local handyman before concluding his career as the Director of Facilities at Lenoir Community College.
Reed’s hands were rarely still; he found great joy in carpentry and photography, and he had a gift for creative writing. He also cherished the time he spent traveling. Above all, Reed was immensely proud of his two sons, Matt and Jason, for achieving the rank of Eagle Scout - an achievement he supported through his dedicated involvement in their Boy Scout Troop throughout their youth.
He is survived by his sister, Susan Turner; his brother, Steve Lovick; and Marsha Lovick, the mother of his children. His memory will be cherished by his sons, Matthew Lovick and Jason Lovick; his grandchildren, Mathew, Brandon, JJ, and Wesley; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.
A graveside service to celebrate Reed’s life will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at Westview Cemetery in Kinston. All friends and family are warmly invited to attend.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Milton “Mac” Lovick Culinary Scholarship fund at Lenoir Community College. Condolences for the family can be sent to Garner Funeral Home.
