Help Wanted: Nurse director for PCU and med/surg units
UNC Lenoir Health Care is seeking a full-time nurse director for its Progressive Care Unit and Medical/Surgical Unit in Kinston.
Position summary
The Nursing Services Director is responsible for providing leadership in planning, directing, coordinating, providing and improving health care services consistent with hospital policies, objectives and standards for quality nursing care.
The position reports directly to the Chief Nursing Officer and helps guide nursing operations, patient care services, clinical managers and nursing leadership development.
Unit summaries
4West Medical-Surgical Unit
The 39-bed Medical-Surgical Unit focuses on caring for adult and geriatric surgical patients across a wide range of procedures, while also supporting complex medical needs.
The unit emphasizes primary nursing, strong clinical standards, teamwork, clear communication, professional growth and compassionate, individualized care.
3West Progressive Care Unit
The 62-bed Progressive Care Unit is a fast-paced, supportive environment caring for adult and geriatric patients with complex neurological, cardiac and renal conditions. Inpatient dialysis is located on the unit.
The team emphasizes primary nursing, strong clinical standards, teamwork, open communication, professional growth and safe, individualized care.
Key responsibilities
The Nursing Services Director will:
Participate in leadership meetings and represent nursing when needed.
Support nursing leadership development and succession planning.
Take an active role in hospital and business operations.
Help implement the overall nursing strategic plan.
Develop, implement and interpret nursing and patient care policies, objectives and standards.
Organize, direct and supervise daily nursing services.
Help ensure adequate staffing coverage for quality care.
Participate in recruiting, interviewing, evaluating and hiring staff.
Support the hospital quality improvement program.
Help ensure regulatory compliance.
Evaluate equipment and supply needs for nursing care.
Assess capital and non-capital clinical needs with clinical managers.
Use education and development resources to advance clinical performance.
Participate in the development of new patient care programs.
Represent the hospital in health care programs and professional organizations when appropriate.
Coordinate the annual budget process for clinical areas.
Review clinical and financial data to identify improvement opportunities.
Serve as a role model for professional behavior and accountability.
Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s degree required.
Master of Science in Nursing highly preferred.
Strong program management skills required.
Strong verbal and written communication skills required.
Excellent problem-solving and reasoning skills required.
Experience
Seven to 10 years of progressive nursing leadership experience required.
North Carolina nursing license required.
Licensure, registration and certification
As required by professional degree.
Knowledge, skills and abilities
Ability to use a personal computer system.

Ability to express ideas clearly in writing and verbally.
Physical requirements
