Neuse Regional Libraries Launches ENC Oral History Project to Preserve Eastern North Carolina’s Stories

Emily Nethercutt

Neuse Regional Libraries is proud to announce The ENC Oral History Project, a growing collection of recordings dedicated to preserving the history and community identity of Eastern North Carolina.

The ENC Oral History Project features oral histories that explore a wide range of topics, including local government, music, agriculture, regional history, business, and more. Along with the local history resource guide, the project aims to highlight the personal stories and lived experiences that shape the identity of the region. The ENC Oral History Project reflects the library’s commitment to preserve local history and ensure that the voices of our communities are heard and remembered.

Over the past three years, library staff have worked with residents across Lenoir, Greene, and Jones counties to document their memories and perspectives. These recordings capture how the communities have changed over time while demonstrating the hometown pride that defines the region.

Each oral history available on the website is organized with highlighted topics and locations, making it easy for users to explore and find stories of interest.

The collection is available through the Library's website, www.neuselibrary.org, making it accessible to researchers, students, and community members alike.

For more information or to inquire about recording an oral history, please contact Information Services at 252-527-7066 ext. 134.
